04 Jan Bull Saturday - A peek at Potter
One of the most famous paintings in the Mauritshuis, The Bull by Paulus Potter, is being restored! It is the largest painting in their collection. The restoration is accessible to everyone and can be experienced live at the museum. And to celebrate that, they have renamed a number of Saturdays in 2024 as Bull’s Saturday. You are more than welcome to join them for a fun afternoon filled with activities.
What is involved in restoring a painting? What choices do restorers face?
During the session by Canadian Abbie Vandivere and Jolijn Schilder, restorers of The Bull by Paulus Potter, you will learn everything about the restoration process and the findings of the material-technical research. For example, they explain that Potter enlarged the painting while he was painting, and they provide an insight into Potter’s painting technique. During a short Q&A session, it is also possible to ask questions about the restoration.
