23 Nov Double Decker Cycle Parking: Details Matter
As cycling rates in our cities grow, building safe and efficient cycling infrastructure, including parking, becomes increasingly important. But design details of those facilities really matter - inadequate or hard-to-use infrastructure can create a negative feedback loop where people see empty cycle-ways or cycle parking and consider the investment a waste of money.
NCCC member Mobycon have given this a lot of thought. Integrated Mobility Planner, Emily Thomason, shows why details matter when designing cycle parking. She visits a double-decker cycle parking facility in Montreal, Canada and compares it to a double-decker cycle parking facility in Delft, The Netherlands. From the outside they both look similar, but a closer look shows how they differ in ways that are critical for the user experience.
