12 Apr Canadian Forced and Child Labour Prohibition Measures Are In Force
The Fighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act (the “Act”) came into force on January 1, 2024. The Act contains two parts.
The first part imposes reporting requirements on certain businesses, government entities, and organizations to combat child labour and forced labour. The second part amends the Customs Tariff to prohibit the importation of goods mined, manufactured, or produced by child and forced labour. The Act applies to Canadian federal government institutions that produce, purchase, or distribute goods in Canada or elsewhere (s. 5, the Act) and international businesses that do business in Canada.
Impacted entities must complete the online questionnaire and file their first reports by May 31, 2024. They must continue to file reports annually in subsequent years.
